About

I am an Associate Professor in the School of English and Theatre Studies and in the Culture and Technology Studies program at the University of Guelph.

Recently, I’ve taught a number of courses in the digital humanities and Canadian literature including:

CTS 2000 – Scripting for the Humanities – An introduction to Python and digital humanities methodologies, textual analysis, data collection, data visualization, and machine learning.

ENGL6201 – Canadian Literary Humanism – A graduate level seminar that investigates discourses of humanism, racism, and colonialism in Canadian literature.

I presently supervise a number of graduate students in the areas of Canadian literature and poetry, Palestinian literature, and digital culture.

I am on sabbatical from July 2024 – July 2025. During that time I am completing two book projects. The first, The Routledge Guide to Canadian Literature and Digital Humanities, with Sarah Roger, is an overview of the relationship between CanLit and DH. The second, The Map and the Territory: Canadian Literary Humanism is a monograph that traces the evolution of discourses of humanism in Canadian literature since its inception. I am also developing a digital project that studies the life and writing of Major John Norton.
